A Handyman is a person skilled at a wide range of repairs, typically around the home. These tasks include trade skills, repair work, maintenance work – both interior and exterior. Sometimes referred to as “side work”, odd jobs” or “fix-up tasks”. Specifically, these jobs could be light plumbing jobs such as fixing a leaky toilet or light electric jobs such as changing a light fixture.

How a domestic plumbing systems works

How a domestic electrical system works

How to fix a dripping tap for less than a plumber call out fee!

How to change a tap to update a bathroom of kitchen

How to unblock sinks

How to plumb in washing machines

How to bleed and drain radiators and fit thermostatic valves to help save energy costs.

How to fix toilet cisterns that keep you awake at night

How to change light switches, fixtures and electrical sockets to complete a room redecoration

Type of Course:

This is a practical course and the modules will be done in a fully equipped workshop.

Admission Requirements:

Plasterer, Bricklayer or relevant experience.

Recognition of prior learning

If what you have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to this program, you may be entitled to gain subject credits or exemptions.  A RPL (Recognition of prior learning) process is available for recognition and assessment of your skills. Relevant credits will be passed.

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is done when a student has already attained certain skills and wishes to be excluded from some of the modules in the training curriculum. During a booked RPL, your skills will be tested and AITF will confirm which modules you will be exempted from.
