This course is for the person who would like to learn the basic skill set in becoming a Carpenter.

  • Module 1: Introduction to the building industry
  • Module 2: Interpret basic building drawings
  • Module 3: Set out and construct basic joints
  • Module 4: Determine and Transfer levels
  • Module 5: Prepare and erect timber formwork for a rectangular column
  • Module 6: Prepare and erect timber formwork for an L-Shaped wall
  • Module 7: Prepare and erect a brandered ceiling and install insulation
  • Module 8: Prepare and erect a timber ceiling
  • Module 9: Cut and fit architrave and skirting
  • Module 10: Prepare and fit tongue and groove wall paneling
  • Module 11: Fit and hang a single door to a steel door frame

This is a practical course and the modules will be done in a fully equipped workshop.

If what you have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to this program, you may be entitled to gain subject credits or exemptions.  A RPL (Recognition of prior learning) process is available for recognition and assessment of your skills. Relevant credits will be passed.

On completion of this course the student will earn the following:

  • AITF Certificate of Completion and AITF Statement of Results
  • The course content is SAQA unit standard aligned
Registration on SETA National Learner Data Base and SETA statement of results only subject to certain terms & conditions;

AITF certificate of results for the following unit aligned content:

  • 14674 – Clad roof structures
  • 14676 – Erect roof trusses
  • 14673 – Install finishing components
  • 261679 – Manufacture and fit door and window frames
  • 261677 – Manufacture and install partitioning and wall panelling from wood
