Carpentry is a scarce skill which high in demand in which the primary work performed is the cutting, shaping and installation of building materials during the construction of buildings, ships, timber bridges, concrete formwork etc.
Modules
- Module 1: Safety and Building Industry
- Module 2: Prepare the work area and select, use and maintain tolls, equipment and materials
- Module 3: Erect, use and dismantle scaffolding
- Module 4: Install a range of finishing components
- Module 5: Prepare components for finishing applications and apply surface touch-ups
- Module 6: Service and check functionality of finishing components
- Module 7: Set out and mark off materials for machining purposes working from Drawings, Setting out rods and cutting lists
- Module 8: Set up and operate machines and machine wooden components
- Module 9: Create and use templates and jigs
- Module 10: Assemble machined components and manufacture a range of products made from wood
Type of Course
This is a practical course and the modules will be done in a fully equipped workshop.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
If what you have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to this program, you may be entitled to gain subject credits or exemptions. A RPL (Recognition of prior learning) process is available for recognition and assessment of your skills. Relevant credits will be passed.
Qualification on Completion
On completion of this course the student will earn the following:
- AITF Certificate of Completion and AITF Statement of Results
- The course content is SAQA unit standard aligned
Registration on SETA National Learner Data Base and SETA statement of results only subject to certain terms & conditions;
AITF certificate of results for the following unit aligned content:
- 14674 – Clad roof structures
- 14676 – Erect roof trusses
- 14673 – Install finishing components
- 261679 – Manufacture and fit door and window frames
- 261677 – Manufacture and install partitioning and wall panelling from wood
