The General Handyman course is for the new tradesman and will focus on all the fundamentals needed to complete general handyman tasks.

This is a practical course and the modules will be done in a fully equipped workshop.

*NB: This course is unit standard based but not all full unit standards will be covered This course is constructed to cover mainly maintenance.

Handyman 4 weeks

  • This is a full time course: 20 working days (4 Weeks)
  • Monday – Friday
  • Time: 09:00 – 15:30 Everyday

Handyman 8 weeks

  • This is a full time course: 40 working days (8 Weeks)
  • Monday – Friday
  • Time: 09:00 – 15:30 Everyday

If what you have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to this program, you may be entitled to gain subject credits or exemptions.  A RPL (Recognition of prior learning) process is available for recognition and assessment of your skills. Relevant credits will be passed.

On completion of this course the student will earn the following:

  • AITF Certificate of Completion and AITF Statement of Results
  • The course content is SAQA unit standard aligned
Registration on SETA National Learner Data Base and SETA statement of results only subject to certain terms & conditions;

Electrical (4 and 8 week course)

  • 258932 – Soldering Techniques

  • 258918 – Electrical measuring and testing instruments
Construction Bricklaying (4 and 8 week course)
  • 14883 – Apply tiles to plastered surfaces
  • 14884 – Build masonry superstructures
  • 14892 – Install glazing
Construction Carpentry (4 and 8 week course)
  • 261679 – Manufacture and fit door and window frames
  • 261677 – Manufacture and install partitioning and wall panelling from wood
  • 24679 – Manufacture timber roof trusses
Welding (4 week course only)
  • 243069 – Braze metals using the oxy-fuel brazing process
  • 243067 – Manual Cutting using oxy-fuel gas
  • 243066 – Weld steel work-pieces using the gas metal arc welding process in the down-hand position
  • 243068 – Weld steel work-pieces using the gas tungsten arc welding process in the down-hand position

Aircon and Refrigeration (8 week course only)

  •  116406 – Diagnose operational faults in refrigeration systems and take remedial action or propose corrective action
  • 116403 – Service a refrigeration system and set it in operation
