Tiling Course Information

Time to Complete
3 Weeks
You’ll learn the practical skills and techniques of how to perform measurements and calculations, interpret plans, use different types of tile adhesives, how to prepare surfaces, waterproof wet areas and apply grout. The course also covers the tools of the trade (power tools, tiles cutting tools, spirit levels, squares and plumb lines).
Modules
- Module 1: Safety and Building Industry
- Module 2: Select Materials, tools and equipment for specified tiling work
- Module 3: Cut Tiles according to specification
- Module 4: Prepare Surfaces for Tiling
- Module 5: Mix Adhesive and Grout
- Module 6: Tile Surfaces
Type of Course
This is a practical course and the modules will be done in a fully equipped workshop.

Admission Requirements
Plasterer, Bricklayer or relevant experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
If what you have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to this program, you may be entitled to gain subject credits or exemptions. A RPL (Recognition of prior learning) process is available for recognition and assessment of your skills. Relevant credits will be passed.
Qualification on Completion
On completion of this course the student will earn the following:
- Registration on SETA National Learner Data Base
SETA statement of results for the following unit standards:
- 261665 – Prepare Surfaces and apply tiles
