The General Handyman course is for the new tradesman and will focus on all the fundamentals needed to complete general handyman tasks.

Type of Course
This is a practical course and the modules will be done in a fully equipped workshop.

*NB: This course is unit standard based but not all full unit standards will be covered This course is constructed to cover mainly maintenance.
Duration
Handyman 4 weeks
- This is a full time course: 20 working days (4 Weeks)
- Monday – Friday
- Time: 09:00 – 15:30 Everyday
Handyman 8 weeks
- This is a full time course: 40 working days (8 Weeks)
- Monday – Friday
- Time: 09:00 – 15:30 Everyday
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
If what you have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to this program, you may be entitled to gain subject credits or exemptions. A RPL (Recognition of prior learning) process is available for recognition and assessment of your skills. Relevant credits will be passed.
Qualification on Completion
On completion of this course the student will earn the following:
- AITF Certificate of Completion and AITF Statement of Results

Plumbing (4 and 8 week course)
- Plumbing Principles
- Install and test water supply system
- Mount solar water heating system
Electrical (4 and 8 week course)
- Soldering Techniques
- Install luminaires
- Electrical measuring and testing instruments
- Apply tiles to plastered surfaces
- Build masonry superstructures
- Install glazing
- Manufacture and fit door and window frames
- Manufacture and install partitioning and wall panelling from wood
- Manufacture timber roof trusses
- Braze metals using the oxy-fuel brazing process
- Manual Cutting using oxy-fuel gas
- Weld steel work-pieces using the gas metal arc welding process in the down-hand position
- Weld steel work-pieces using the gas tungsten arc welding process in the down-hand position
